IMPROVEMENT OF THE ACCESS TO DRINKING WATER IN THE DISTRICT OF RUFIJI IN TANZANIA

The Humanitarian Association "if...", in partnership with the Red Cross of Tanzania is proposing to improve the access to water in the comunities of five villages close to the river Rufiji, which cannot be exploited at the maximum.

Some wells, which are out of function, are already being repaired and the relative pumping systems are being adapted. Selection is made by privileging the areas that are close to the schools.

With those interventions the villages of Ndundunyikanza, Ngorongo, Kilimani, Mkongo and Ruwe will avail, about 12'000 persons in total.

The partnership accordance with the Red Cross Tanzania guarantees the active involvement of the local comunities, that will take care of the maintenance of the systems, in order to safeguard them throughout the time.

Engineer Bunga (International Committee of the Red Cross), under supervision of Engineer Nembrini, has accomplished the survey in the above mentioned areas. Evaluation of time and cost of realization are based on his firm experiences in the field.
